WHAT IS PLANCHARLOTTE.ORG?
PlanCharlotte.org is a project of the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, an applied research and community outreach institute at UNC Charlotte. Our goal at PlanCharlotte.org is to be a citizen resource, looking at problems and solutions in land use planning, neighborhood design, environmental protection and other urban and regional issues.
The PlanCharlotte.org website offers news, information and analysis to help the people of the Charlotte region make well-informed decisions about the shape of their cities, towns and countryside. PlanCharlotte.org hopes to both educate and connect the people of this great region as they work to build a shared future.
OUR CONTENT
PlanCharlotte.org is a nonprofit, nonpartisan online media project reporting on issues affecting the growth, quality of life and future of the Charlotte region. Our writers and editors are expected to adhere to professional journalistic standards of objectivity, fact-based writing, civility and fair play.
Opinion pieces are labeled as such and are the opinions of the writers, not necessarily those of PlanCharlotte.org and the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute. Our opinion page, The Conversation, is open to writing from across the political spectrum that is civil in tone, fact-based and in an approachable writing style.

Mary Newsom is PlanCharlotte.org director. She is an award-winning journalist with expertise in urban growth, design and planning. In 2011 she became an associate director at the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, after more than 15 years as a columnist and member of the editorial board at The Charlotte Observer. John Chesser is senior analyst at the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute. He has a bachelor's degree in geography from UNC Chapel Hill and a master's in geography from UNC Charlotte. He grew up in Lancaster, S.C., and Gastonia and currently chairs the Town of Davidson Planning Board. |
