BACKGROUND

Freelance writer Amber Veverka spent 20 years as a newspaper journalist, most recently at The Charlotte Observer. Her website, Backyard & Beyond, www.backyardandbeyond.org, introduces urban readers to the natural world around them and is an online news partner for the Observer. She is working on an N.C. Environmental Education certification and volunteers with Mecklenburg Park and Recreation and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She lives in Charlotte with her husband, two children and flock of backyard hens.
